Weekly (re)discoveries: Crock pot chicken and baby wearing

The crock pot
Back when we were renovating our kitchen, I relied heavily on the crock pot. The crock pot allowed me to create either undercooked slop, or concoctions that had been cooked into mushy oblivion. It was always one or the other. But, seeing that I have very little free time these days, I thought I’d give it another try. I took a few chicken breasts, dumped a can of diced tomatoes, some balsamic vinegar, olives, soy sauce and herbs and turned on the crock pot. It smelled succulent all day long and we ate it for dinner over basmati rice – and guess what?! It was quite delicious! So, I’m gonna give the crock pot another shot.

Baby Wearing
I love the term “baby wearing”. It conjures up images of a smiling baby pinned to a lapel to finish off a smart suit… or a baby worn at the waist as a fashionable belt buckle. It’s the next big trend – small live humans as accessories!  But I digress. What I’m referring to here is the use of baby carriers. I got like four baby carriers and a sling from various family, friends and garage sales while pre-baby nesting and was either too intimidated by their wild mess of straps and buckles to try them, they squeezed her into a sausage-like form, or she just plain hated them.

Well, I decided that I really would like to be able to care for my baby and do something other than sit on my fanny all day long, so I ventured to try it again this week and, guess what? She loves the baby carrier now! Who knew? Henceforth, I am writing this post with the most adorable sleeping gremlin nestled snugly against my chest. That’s right – I’m holding my baby AND doing something. How novel.

MMMMM. that chicken was goood! I also always think about the chocolate crockpot brownies you made when we renovated the kitchen.

was it the sling? I see hippie moms all over the place w/ those yards of material encasing their torso and (presumably) a baby. All you see is this nestled bump and it makes me think that the baby is probably so comfy in there. …like the womb. :)

No, I think when you were here, I tried the sling, but that was the one that squished her like a little kielbasa. It was the Baby Bjorn carrier.
But I hear ya – I always thought slings looked so chic and the baby’s so comfy! Maybe I should’ve not been so cheap and gotten a really good one, but I think maybe she’s too big now for a sling. ?

hooray for crockpot chicken! i haven’t dared to pull that sucker out since a very very very ugly run-in with crockpot chicken in my first trimester.

love the baby wearing! in fact, i just ordered a maya wrap this morning. we have 3 other carriers that we inherited from pam, but they’re bulky and have lots of straps. the doula who taught our baby class brought in her maya wrap, and it seemed really easy. so… hooray!

and congratulations for getting off your fanny.
